How to create and edit links
Logging In
To log in, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the © copyright symbol in the footer.To edit a page
Once you have logged in you will be taken to the “Edit” mode. Click on the green edit button for the region you want to edit.
HOW TO CREATE A LINK TO AN EXTERNAL WEBSITE
Select your text
Click the link button
A pop-up window will appear—this is where you enter your link settings
On the General tab enter in these settings
Link URL: Enter the full URL path to your page
(e.g., http://www.vanderbilt.edu — not just vanderbilt.edu)Target: Open in a New Window (_blank)
(change this setting if you don’t want the link to open in a new window.)Title: Enter a title for your link
Click Update
HOW TO CREATE A LINK TO A PAGE OR FILE WITHIN YOUR WEBSITE
Select your text
Click the link button
A pop-up window will appear—this is where you enter your link settings
Link URL: Click on the browse button to the right of
Navigate to the directory containing your page file
Select the file and click insert
The URL path will show the folder where your file or page lives on your site
(e.g., /files/sample.pdf )
Target: Open in a New Window (_blank)
(change this setting if you don’t want the link to open in a new window.)Title: Enter link title
Click Update
HOW TO CREATE AN EMAIL LINK
Select your text
Click the mail link button
A dialog box will appear
Recipient Email: Enter an email address
Mail Subject: Enter email subject
Click update
ANCHOR LINKS
Use these when you have a long page of text and you want to create a link at the top that links to another part of the page.
First we will need to create an anchor and then link to that destination on our page.
Create an anchor
The anchor link will be our in-page destination for the link we will create next
Scroll to your desired page location
Select your text and click on the anchor icon
You can select a word or a space within a line of text to create your anchor
A dialog box appears
Anchor Name: Enter a name for your anchor. A lowercase single word works best. (Note: Anchor tags can’t start with a number.)
Click insert
Linking to an anchor link within your page
Select your text
Click the link button
A dialog appears
On the General tab
Anchors: select the anchor you just created from the dropdown.
Target: The anchor you selected above will show as #linkname (e.g., #pagetop)
Target: Open in This Window/Frame
Title: Enter a title
Click update
HOW TO REMOVE A LINK
Select the link text
Click the on the remove link button
