About Three Column Pages in Omni 10

The three-column template gives you one column of content and a right sidebar as well as a left sidebar (see a screenshot below).

THESE ARE THE SETTINGS THAT YOU CAN ADD OR MODIFY FOR THE THREE-COLUMN TEMPLATE USING THE PAGE PROPERTIES DIALOG BOX:

A. Page Title. This text shows up as the main header for your page. It also is displayed in the title bar within your browser window.
B. Add an Attention Box. The attention box is a callout box with rounded corners and a light background color. It’s a great place to put links or to highlight a staff member or program. If you choose the wide attention box, you will get a rounded-corner box that spans the full width of your text column. If you choose the regular attention box, you’ll get 2 narrow boxes that together span the width of your text column.
C. Left Column Menu.Choose this option when you want left sidebar content that will repeat on every page of your site that has the Left Column Menu option selected. Note that if you create a new page without enabling the “Add Menu to Right Sidebar,” that this content will not appear.
D. Left Column Text. Omni will autopopulate the left column with placeholder text. This text is unique to just the one page. You can highlight over this placeholder text and replace it with text, links, or photos.
E. Add Slideshow. This will add a rotating slideshow to the top of your main text column; the photos will span the full width of the text column. By default, the slideshow plays with three generic Vanderbilt campus photos. See a tutorial about how to modify the slideshow.
F. Whenever you create a 2 or 3-column page, Omni puts placeholder text in the main content section. You can edit that placeholder text to replace it with your text and/or photos or you can delete the placeholder text. Default placeholder text is also put into the right sidebar and that too can be edited.
G. Add Site Search. This will add a search box to the top of the right sidebar. By default, this site search uses Vanderbilt’s Google search engine to search your Omni site and return results based on what you’ve entered in the meta tag description and meta tag keyword fields. The search engine also looks at your page titles and the text of your page.
H. Add Menu to Right Sidebar. Choose this option when you want right sidebar content that will repeat on every page of your site that has the Add Menu to Right Sidebar option enabled. Note that if you create a new page without enabling the “Add Menu to Right Sidebar,” that this content will not appear.
I. Add News Feed to Right Sidebar. Use this if you’d like to display an RSS newsfeed. By default, Omni will display the Vanderbilt news feed. You can use another news feed, though, either from your Omni site or from another RSS feed.
J. Enter the URL for the News Feed you wish to display. By default, Omni will display the Vanderbilt news feed.
K. Flickr Photo Gallery. By default, generic Vanderbilt campus photos will be selected. But you can customize these settings to display photos from your area’s Flickr site. You can specify the set to use. You can have different Flickr sets display on different pages of your site.
L. Whenever you create a 2 or 3-column page, Omni puts placeholder text in the right column that is specific to only that page. You can edit that placeholder text to replace it with your text and/or photos or you can delete the placeholder text.
M. Add Breadcrumb. The breadcrumb navigation links appear horizontally across the top of the web page and provide a trail for the user to follow back to the starting or entry point of the site. Breadcrumb navigation is usually displayed on every page except the homepage.
N. Display Page Title. This is the main title, or headline, for your web page. The Page Title is usually displayed on every page except the homepage.

The following settings from the Page Properties window are not displayed on your page; instead, they are behind-the-scenes workers.

1. Meta Tags: Description. Used by the Google search engine to index your site. Type in a sentence that describes your page. The more specific you are, the higher your page will show up in the search results for that topic.
2. Meta Tags: Keywords. Used by the Google search engine to index your site. Type in keywords, separated by commas, that describe the content within your web page. The more specific you are, the higher your page will show up in the search results for that topic.

Final Note: The filename for your page is the URL name for that page. While editing, you will save your files as .PCF. When files are published, they are converted to PHP.
